Manitoba Hydro has made its choice as to where it wants to build the new high voltage transmission line known as BiPole III.

Portage la Prairie MLA David Faurschou said he has concerns about Manitoba Hydro's preferred route for a number of reasons. He said with the route now 479 kilometres longer than the alternate eastern route, it will mean added costs of $17 million of power loss, because of the extra distance the route covers.

Hydro's Preliminary Preferred Route is for the line to come from the west side of Lake Manitoba heading south to cross Highway 2 to the west of St. Claude and pass to the south of the village as it heads to the east.

BiPole III then crosses Highway 13 to the south of Elm Creek as the line makes it continues its way through the Rural Municipality of Grey and into the RM of Macdonald. Then BiPole II will pass to the north of Brunkild and make its way to Red River.

Began process in 2008

Originally the electricity utility looked at building BiPole III along the east side of Lake Winnipeg. The NDP government nixed the idea citing concerns the line would cross through a proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I am in total shock, that a , "ONCE " Leading Major Corporation would follow the advice of the government, of all people and build on the most insane and costly route that one could possibly do ! Who gives a diddle squat about the; costs and extre maintenance, loss of useable farm land, or the deadly, " electrical magnetic field forces ", that is a major hazard to EVERYTHING, from animal to man to vegitation ? Not you office know it alls who know sweet tweet !
Next move, how about a sub-station in Portage, next to the box on the swamp.
You all would fit rirgt in there together ! Daaaaaaaaa With Over 40 years of experience , many as an engineer, you guys are a joke !
Next time you take your family to the beach that is 25 miles from your home, are you going to drive via Tampa first ! Daaaaaaaaaaa
