Travis frontman feels lucky

This is Fran Healy's year. In more ways than one.

Not only is the "benevolent dictator" of Britpop band Travis celebrating the release of his first solo album Wreckorder this fall; he's also quite excited about the fact that he just turned 37.

"It's great," he enthused from his apartment in Manhattan's SoHo district. "I'm feeling really lucky — 37 is my lucky number, because it's my birthday backwards. I was born in '73.

"I really like numbers," he explains. "I always have. When I see someone's phone number, I either go 'Eww' or 'Wow, that's an amazing number!' So I'm really happy to be 37. The best part of it is that I already thought I was 37 when I was 36. So now I've got an extra year of being 37."

And he's making the most of it. The appealing (and undeniably Travis-like) Wreckorder — which features contributions by Neko Case and some guy named Paul McCartney — is due in stores the first week of October. Leading up to that, he'll be road-testing new material with a tour that swings through Canada over the next few weeks.
