Firefighters deal with kitchen fires

Portage Emergency Services were called to two kitchen fires on Sunday night in Portage la Prairie.
The first call came at 6:30 p.m.,to a house on Sixth Street N.W. at Lorne Avenue. A pot was reportedly left on the stove element in the kitchen. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze.
There were no injuries reported.
In a second incident, at about 7:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the scene of a kitchen fire at an apartment in the 600 block of Sixth St. N.W. Again, the fire was caused when a cooking pot was left unattended on an element in the kitchen.
When firefighters arrived, the fire has already been put out, so the crew helped clear the smoke and ventilate the area.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
